Friends in the studio are starting to develop. Even though the seedlings were started weeks ago transplatation has only occurred recently. Their roots finally have room to develop, can endure constant sunlight by the window and be free of all the wind outside.

I’m speaking partly of the plants friends, and partly of myself. The final move to Rhode Island has been endured. I, and all my (too many) things are settled in. The move was exhausting, both intellectually and economically. But, like the plants, the transplant shock is begging to wear. Roots have began to take hold and leaves have sprouted. I can feel the fruit blossoming soon. It may have taken two months, but at last I can feel my mind wondering through the space in the studio, excepting the sunlight and feeling relieved of all that visceral wind from the city.

I will post more preview photos this week on my Facebook and Flickr accounts.

The new studio in Rhode Island is all moved into. The trip took more energy out of me than I was anticipating, but besides a few things to sustain the couple weeks in Philadelphia, everything is moved.

The place is larger than I was expecting. Once everything started to get organized the furniture began to disappear in the open space. Which is a good change from the apartments I have been in. The lighting is wonderful as well with six full length windows.

As the final move will not come until July, the remaining days in Philly will be of enjoyment. This Friday, June 5: Philadelphia AIDS Thrift (PAT) will be hosting a garden party at Isaiah Zagar‘s Magic Garden to raise funds for the building’s improvement. I have been given the opportunity to donate a piece of work to the cause and will be there at 1022 South Street from 5 to 9 p.m. Live music by The Dangerous Ponies with DJ TransAm Spinnin the Early Summer Ambience. If you are interested in joining the food, refreshments, cash bar, silent auction, prizes and surprises visit the PAT store at 514 Bainbridge St, 19147 or visit their website phillyaidsthrift.com for tickets.

My work will also be at the West Philly Art Expo next Saturday, June 13 at Studio 34 (4522 Baltimore Ave.Philadelphia, PA) from 12:30 – 5 pm. The event is Free and open to all ages. FEATURING: Artwork by 20+ West Philly Artists, Tribute to Kathy Change & Deryl D. Mackie, West Philly Dedication Canvas, Live painting performances & Live music by Beam & Deem. Free food by Desi Village, Crispy Sweetie, and the Gold Standard Café.

I would also like to thank everyone at phillysidearts.com for making me a featured artist.

We’ve secured a place to stay in Rhode Island this weekend. Just made it back to our final weeks in Philadelphia. I am looking forward to the peace. The space looks promising. It is about 4 miles outside downtown providence, nestled into a tree lined (dare I say suburban) setting but still biking distance to the city. Here’s a quick hint of the building:

Here in Philly everything is in boxes. It may be a little too early but i’m starting to get restless. Even the canvas and the paints are packed up. And I have been restricted with photoshop. Made texture scans today to add depth to a couple images. Over the time living here I’ve developed a pile of scrap wood I’m trying to make use of. Moving going to be a pain as it is. No need to haul anything extra.

I sure do love a rainy day, and it has been all day out here in west philly. The mood is calm, the water sounds bring a nice ambiance and I have the time to doodle around. The past week has been a good chance to get some much needed work done. Besides anticipating the move out of Philadelphia, I have been working on getting together a few photographic prints. They are looking rather nice and should be out to the printer this week. Perhaps up online for purchase before mother’s day this weekend.

I also finally got a chance to do a fresh install of windows on my work computer today. It is all squeaky clean now and running great. Feels like the operating system went through a week long high altitude yoga session. Now all we have to do is wait for the productivity levels on my end to increase. No more waiting for 2 minutes while Photoshop (even Firefox for that matter) to open.

Hope all is well. I’m feeling refreshed over here.

Readers of Jimi Demetriou on the inter webs:

As some of you may have inferred, this website has been run off of my own php scirpts over the last three years. Sadly, I am beginning to phase them out. Dynamic systems are a beautiful thing, but such things are in place for reasons of convenience. It has become somewhat of a practice that I have spent more time maintaining these scripts rather then the content itself.

After some research I have decided to adopt expressionengine.com. The folks over at Ellis Lab have done a nice job on the CMS. I have been running it on my test server for the last week and seems to be a good fit.

Rooftopkitchen.com will incorporated within the same system in the coming weeks. I plan to do a follow up article on the Wordpress to EE conversion.

For now, bear with me while I transfer everything over.

I am going to have a few pieces in a group art show at The Millcreek Tavern here in West Philly this Friday, November 7th. This is the collective’s premier show and will be of some interest. If your in the neighborhood, come on down. The show starts at seven, live music (Sailboat, Gentleman Loser and the Cognitive Dissidents, Cortez Cortez and The Indobox) starts at nine.
